Double Dragon fights its way into Pixel Starships

If you’re a reader of this site then we’re sure the side-scrolling beat ‘em up world of Double Dragon needs no introduction. However, you may be less familiar with Pixel Starships, and indeed, it’s not necessarily the sort of game we’d normally cover here at Retro Faith, but bringing Double Dragon into the mix has piqued our interest somewhat.

Pixel Starships is a free-to-play  8-bit style MMORPG, in which you manage a starship, and it has over 10 million players worldwide.  And for a limited time, the game is hosting a rather unlikely crossover!

The Double Dragon X Pixel Starships collaboration launched on 6th October, and publishers Savy Soda claim that it “combines the classic action of Double Dragon with the strategy and exploration elements that define Pixel Starships, delivering a unique gaming experience for fans of both worlds. The collaboration allows you to recruit Double Dragon characters to your crew and play through an exclusive storyline.”

“In this limited-time crossover, players can unlock and recruit legendary Double Dragon characters like Billy and Jimmy Lee to serve as elite-level crew members aboard their starships. These new recruits bring unique abilities inspired by their signature moves, adding a quite literally punchy twist to tactical space combat. This collaboration also introduces special Double Dragon missions featuring exclusive challenges and rewards for players who successfully demonstrate their fighting spirit. Ship skins, themed rooms, and items inspired by Double Dragon merge the best of Pixel Starships and Double Dragon.”

CEO of Savy Soda, Xin Zhao, said: “Double Dragon joins Pixel Starships! Unleash epic martial arts power with a full set of exclusive nostalgic crew and challenges inspired by the iconic franchise.”

Pixel Starships is free to play, and is available on Steam, where it has mostly positive reviews.
