Although we aim to cover the widest possible range of retro gaming formats here at Retro Faith, the Amstrad CPC doesn’t tend to cross our radar very often. Though with Lord Sugar’s recent announcement of plans for an Amstrad Museum website (on which we previously reported), and this forthcoming brawler, it seems that exciting things are happening in the Amstrad world!
Amstrad homebrew developers GGP announced their Street Fighter 2-influenced Mighty Street Fighter a while back, but they’ve now confirmed that the game will be released as a downloadable ROM this December, via their itch.io page. A cartridge version is also planned for release, but this has been delayed, so don’t go dusting off that GX4000 just yet!
As well as drawing (rather blatant) influence from Street Fighter 2, the developers also cite SNK Vs. Capcom as an influence on the game. These are rather lofty aspirations for Lord Sugar’s 8-bit micro but come December we’ll get to see if GGP have managed to get the humble CPC to punch above its weight with Mighty Street Fighter.
