Battle City fights its way out of the Arcade Archives

Here at Retro Faith, we’re big fans of Hamster Corp’s Arcade Archives series, which not only makes retro arcade titles easy to play on modern formats, but it also serves the function of preserving arcade titles of yesteryear, which may otherwise be forgotten.

The latest release in the series is the game Battle City, which has been released under the title VS. Battle City to indicate that this is the version of the game that was released for Nintendo’s VS. arcade system, rather than the Famicom version. Perhaps unusually, the home version of the game was released before the arcade version.

Battle City is a tank combat game that  was originally released into arcades by Namco in 1985. In the game, you take control of a tank and face down your enemies while defending your own HQ. Sounds like a blast!

VS. Battle City was released for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on 12th September 2024.
