Retro RPG 8-Bit Adventures 2 is air shipping to consoles next month

8-Bit Adventures 2 is a retro-inspired JRPG from developer Critical Games released to Steam in 2023. We now have news that the well-regarded adventure is heading to consoles on 16th October 2024. It will be available digitally on PlayStation, Xbox and Switch and given the game’s great reviews we’re betting this will see a physical release sometime in the future.

It’s the follow up to the initial game in the series released in 2015 and has a great reputation amongst players and critics as a great example of a modern JRPG. It has been ported to consoles by retro specialists Ratalaika Games and has all the tropes you’d expect from a game paying homage to the classic 16-bit RPG titles from the 90s.

8-Bit Adventures 2 promises 30-40 hours of gameplay and seven playable characters. It uses the traditional formula of map exploration, turn-based battles, levelling up character stats, vibrant pixel art, and a chiptune soundtrack. It also has airships, which gives us a happy nod to Skies of Arcadia. We’ll be bringing you a review of this one as soon as we can.

Speaking of the console release, developer Joshua Hallaran said. “After seven years of work developing and self-funding 8-Bit Adventures 2, I was overwhelmed and delighted with the positive response that the PC version received. The central storyline, cast, and battle system hooked fans of the RPG genre, and I look forward to sharing this experience with console players.”
