Argonaut Games returns with a Croc remaster due later this year

Argonaut Games, the iconic developer that led the 3D gaming revolution in the 80s and 90s, has announced its return after a 20-year hiatus. The first game to be announced is a remaster of the 1997 hit 3D platformer Croc: The Legend of the Gobbos for consoles and PC. Although we’ve no news on a release date, Argonaut’s press release suggests it will be sometime in 2024.

The game is being developed by many of the original Argonaut team and there has been a lot of positive reaction from the gaming community. The remaster will feature a Crocipedia, an extensive and meticulously curated digital museum containing long-lost development assets such as game design documents, concept art, animation tests, and team member interviews.

Gary Sheinwald, Co-CEO of Argonaut Games, expressed his excitement about the future: “I worked closely with Jez on the design and production of Starglider, Argonaut’s first big hit back in 1986, so to take up the mantle of relaunching Argonaut Games nearly four decades later brings me full circle, and we have further exciting announcements in the pipeline in the coming months.”
